Every day, 70 Aussie men are diagnosed with prostate cancer. That’s why I’ve decided to become an agent of change by joining the PCFA-Team.
I’ll be taking on a new challenge, to support men and their families impacted by a prostate cancer diagnosis. From game-changing research to specialised mental and physical care, there is so much more we can, and must, do to save the lives of the men we love.

Wayne’s Strength and Journey
Thursday 29th Aug Wayne was an inspiration to many. He loved being right 😆 You certainly knew if he was right !! If you where important to him you knew it. Wayne loved drag racing in his youth, and was still drag racing when I met him on his 30th birthday. Being a man of honour, he said "no more racing, I have a family now " Family was what he lived for. After his prostate cancer diagnosis in 2011 he became a great advocate for prostate cancer awareness. He was eager to tell men, young and old, to get tested. “It’s just a blood test” he’d say. He was also eager to get involved in clinical trials.Throughout Wayne’s journey, the work of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia’s Prostate Cancer Support Nurses was so important to Wayne and those close to him. With the wonderful Kelly & Shona, They offered guidance through both the good times and the bad. They became family. There is an incredible need for these amazing people to help men and their families affected by prostate cancer. Sadly, some men are alone through this difficult journey, which makes the support of the Prostate Cancer Support Nurses even more vital.
With the support of those around him, Wayne stayed so positive after his diagnosis. Of course, he had times of doubt, but he never let it stay around too long. He’d contemplate things for a few days, then got back into what he enjoyed most – gardening, Snooker, and travelling to Bathurst, Newcastle, and Townsville (to tick off the bucket list).
As a wife, and his family, it was a rollercoaster of emotions to see the man you love battle prostate cancer. Wayne was the one who made it easier, even though he was going through it himself. In honour of Wayne, I encourage you to tell the men in your life to get tested. The earlier the disease is caught, the easier it is to treat. And like Wayne said, “It’s just a blood test”. Listen to your bodies and gentleman, do what’s right for you.
