The Dick Potts Memorial Marathon

By John Moss

I’m Changing the Game!

The Dick Potts Memorial Marathon

For Prostate Cancer Research, Awareness and Support

On the 6th March 2022 John Moss will attempt the Orange Running Festival marathon. John will be supported by five senior members of the Orange Runners’ Club. Our average age is 74.

The sole objective is to raise funds to help support the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA).

Dick Potts lost his fight with prostate cancer at the age of 63 in September 2008. Dick was a true champion whose life very much revolved around family and friends, his passion for sport, especially rugby, and his international career as an eminent mining engineer. Dick established a huge network of friends throughout the world who remember him with respect and great affection. Dick was my great friend, inspiration and mentor. Since the time of Dick’s premature loss, my goal has been to honour Dick through this fundraising marathon timed soon after my 70th birthday.

How you can help.

Please make a donation to the Dick Potts Memorial Marathon fundraiser here (https://fundraise.pcfa.org.au/fundraisers/johnmoss). I invite you to forward this link to those who remember Dick or to those you feel may like to donate. All proceeds will benefit the PCFA.

You may be interested (and amused) to view a YouTube clip here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZRQ2vZo7Bc) of Dick and my promotion of the Magan Rugby Club’s fun run in Oman in 1985(ish). Dick was feared prop forward – not a runner! This ‘Jetty Mile’ advertisement was screened throughout our town site TV system. Unsurprisingly, being screened in an Islamic community, it was only broadcast once. Surprisingly, we both maintained our employment with the Oman Mining Company!!

A sincere ‘thank you’ in anticipation of your support and also acknowledgement of the Orange Runners’ Club who are a big part of helping make this happen.
